Lakeview Jr- Sr High is seeking to hire a Media Center Para for the 2026-27 school year.  The starting day for this position is August 6th, 2026.

Circulation Library Assistant
Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION: 
Rapport/Interpersonal Skills

  • Attitude: Cheerful, patient, kind, comes ready and willing to work
  • Rapport with Students: Works well with students, students respond to paraprofessional, able to work with students even when the students are discouraged.
  • Rapport with Teacher: Works well with the teachers, offers help, asks for clarification and/or direction, cooperative.
  • Self-Control: Shows self-control even in stressful situations, keeps voice calm, actions are appropriate.

Library Duties

  • Circulation Procedures: Performs circulation desk procedures, such as checking in, checking out, renewing, and reserving materials and collecting fines.  Shelves library materials and reads shelves. 
  • Patron Assistance: Supervises and instructs students scheduled into the media center or sent from classroom, assists students in locating materials.  Assists and monitors patrons in use of the technology and other library equipment. 
  • Library Promotion: Maintains records, creates reports, assists and promotes library programs and events.
  • Library Management: Maintains circulation records, arrange media center materials in an orderly manner for efficient use and checking out, order supplies and equipment, mark materials and equipment with school codes.  Processes, withdraws, repairs, or reconditions library materials. 

General Work Habits

  • Promptness: On time, follows schedules, advanced notice of absences when possible.  Performs daily opening and closing procedures.
  • Follows Directions: Correctly carries out directions given by the supervisor, is prompt in carrying out directions.
  • Initiative: Asks what to do when finished with other work, works on long-term projects without having to be reminded, finds work to do on his/her own.
  • Other: Perform other duties as assigned by principal, coordinate with other district media staff. Attends meetings and other school wide functions which require para attendance.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Working knowledge of library methods and procedures. 
  • Ability to operate library machines properly. 
  • Keyboarding and filing ability. 
  • Working knowledge of English grammar and spelling. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED 
  • Keyboarding and general office experience.
