November Board Report
Lakeview FFA Update
On the 20th of October Lakeview FFA members gathered to thank local farmers and agriculturists for all that they do. Often times the job goes unthanked, so the chapter took the opportunity in stride. Starting at 10 am members gathered and began preparing a meal, which included, a cheeseburger, chips, a cookie, and a water, along with a thank you note. Once the meals were bagged and prepared, members divided and drove routes to deliver 150 meals to farmers harvesting in local fields.
National FFA Convention and Expo
The Lakeview FFA Chapter departed to attend the 91st National FFA Convention and Expo on the 23rd of October and returned on the 27th of October. 29 Attendees had the opportunity to network and build relationships across the country while at the convention. Members also attended General Sessions where they listened to many inspirational speakers, and student workshops, where they had the opportunity to build upon their leadership skills and grow as individuals. The chapter also took the opportunity to tour Iowa State University’s teaching farms, dairy farm, and bio research facility, as well as the John Deere Seeding Factory in Moline, IL.
On the 5th of November the Lakeview FFA chapter held its annual Labor Auction. Members were each auctioned off for six hours of labor each, along with many great silent auction items. The event would not have been possible without the help of many donors and contributors. Lakeview FFA would like to send a huge thank you to anyone who attended the auction, donated silent auction items, or supported the event in any way, shape, or form. The auction was a huge success breaking last year’s total, and setting a new record. The proceeds from this event go to help our chapter grow in a number of ways including: greenhouse improvements, putting on more community service events, and more.
On November 6th, several members of our chapter came together to give back to one of our community’s charities. Members arrived at the Columbus Rescue Mission, where they served residents a meal of sloppy joes, potato salad, beans, chips, and cookies. Members also had the opportunity to receive a tour of the Rescue Mission and hear from several employees on their work, and all that the Mission stands for.
